My inspiration was a childhood event. As a child I survived a vicious dog attack alongside an old barn building. I've often struggled with words to explain the trauma. My painting begins where words leave off.
The materials I used in this painting included watercolor and a small amount of Chinese ink applied to watercolor paper. I experimented with different tools to apply thin lines of watercolor and then lines of ink.
This painting communicates the raw terror and emotion of that night. Several moons represent the slow passage of time during the attack. Although there's a whirlwind of turmoil expressed, I felt peace creating it.
The painting won first place award in the 25th Annual Lakeside Statewide Juried Exhibitions in Oswego, NY 2022.
